First Aid & Defibrillator Training
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide "adequate" first aid care on their premises for staff, and have a duty of care towards all visitors and users of their facilities. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.
What is "adequate" will depend on the circumstances in the workplace. This includes whether trained first-aiders are needed, what should be included in a first-aid box, or even if a first-aid room is required. Employers should carry out an assessment of their first-aid needs to determine what to provide, and what training will be necessary.
If you identify that you need a first aider, then in reality you need two. This is to cover for holidays, illnesses etc.
All First Aiders must be re-qualified every three years.
Until October 2013, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) had been the accrediting body for all first aid training providers. A training organisation needed to meet certain criteria surrounding quality assurance in order to maintain their accreditation.
The HSE now proposes the following:
The HSE will continue to regulate the role of the first aider in the workplace but will not award accreditation to first aid training providers. Instead they will aim to produce guidance to help steer buyers towards an experienced, reputable provider

Emergency First Aid At Work
Course Aims
To provide delegates with the training, skills and knowledge in emergency first aid and comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. Employees working within "low risk" workplaces that require an "appointed person" to take charge in the event of illness or injury.
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is run over one day and includes both theory and practical sessions; the course is conducted in a relaxed environment with the focus on building knowledge and confidence.
Suitable For
Any person nominated by their employer as an Appointed Person in the workplace.

Pre-requisites
Temporary physical impairment - In situations where employers inform
training providers that an employee attending an FAW / EFAW course has a
temporary physical impairment, it may be sensible to advise them to defer
training until the individual is fit. If this is not possible and the student
has a temporary physical impairment, affecting for example mobility, a training
provider can temporarily accommodate this during training. For example, a knee
injury may prevent CPR training as the person is unable to kneel on the floor,

Certification
All delegates will be awarded a nationally recognised, accredited Certificate of Attendance, valid for three years. NVQ Level 2 equivalency.

First Aid At Work
Course Aims
To provide delegates with the required level of training, skills and knowledge in First Aid, and comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The First Aid at Work course is run over three days and includes both theory and practical sessions; the course is conducted in a relaxed environment with the focus on building knowledge and confidence.
Suitable For
Any person selected by the employer to be a first aider in the work place, who has the aptitude and ability to absorb new knowledge and skills.
Course Length
3 days*
* Note: This course consists of 18 hours contact time. It is usually run as a 3-day course, although for businesses requiring in-house FAW training, we are happy to consider other arrangements to suit your business. As an example, a course run over 3 weeks at 1-day per week may be more suitable for you.

First Aid At Work Revalidation
Course Aims
To update and requalify existing first aiders to the required level of skill and knowledge in first aid, in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. The First Aid at Requalification course is run over two days and includes both theory and practical sessions; the course is conducted in a relaxed environment with the focus on building knowledge and confidence.
Suitable For
Any person who holds a current First Aid at Work certificate, which is within three months of it's expiry date, or within a 28 day grace period for those who have allowed their qualification to lapse.

2 days*
* Note: This course consists of 12 hours contact time. It is usually run as a 2-day course, although we are happy to consider other arrangements to suit your business. As an example, a course run over 2 weeks at 1-day per week may be more suitable for you.
Pre-requisites
To attend a revalidation course, trainees must produce an original copy of an approved First Air At Work training certificate. This can be from any training provider, not just RoadSafe.

Annual First Aid Skills Refresher
Course Aims
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) "strongly recommend" an annual half day refresher for existing first aiders to maintain their levels of knowledge and competence. The First Aid at Work refresher is run over half-a-day and includes both theory and practical sessions; the course is conducted in a relaxed environment with the focus on building knowledge and confidence.
Suitable for
First aiders who hold a current three year First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work certificate (awarded by any training provider), and who would benefit from practising and refreshing their skills between recertifications.
Course Length
1/2 day (4 hours, either AM or PM)
Pre-requisites
This is aimed at existing first aiders, and is not intended for those needing to train in first aid for the first time.

Defibrillator AED Training
Course Aims
In the UK, one person suffers a heart attack every two minutes, (60,000 people a year according to the British Heart Foundation), but the majority could be saved if their heart was shocked back into rhythm. Automated Electronic Defibrillation (AED) has proved to be the best treatment for most people who suffer an attack. There is strong scientific evidence to support early defibrillation and the chances of successful defibrillation decline at a rate of 7-10% with each minute that passes between collapse and the first shock. The correct used of AED within the first three minutes gives a 72% chance of survival.
Any person already trained to resuscitate, who has access to an AED and needs training in its safe and effective use. AED training includes both theory and practical sessions; the course is conducted in a relaxed environment with the focus on building knowledge and confidence.
Suitable For
Any person nominated by their employer as potentially requiring to need to use an AED in their workplace.
Course length
1/2 day (4 hours, either AM or PM)
Pre-requisites
Trainees must already be familiar with resuscitation techniques. There will be some bending and moving involved during the course, however if the trainee has a temporary physical impairment, affecting mobility, for example a knee

Certification
There is ongoing assessment throughout the course and a Certificate of Attendance, will be awarded to all trainees meeting the required standards of competence, valid for one year.

Manual Handling
Course Aims
To provide delegates with the training, skills and knowledge to ensure they can conduct manual handling tasks in an efficient, and most importantly, safe manner. The Manual Handling includes both theory and practical sessions; the course is conducted in a relaxed environment with the focus on building knowledge and confidence.
Suitable For
Any person who may have the requirement to conduct manual handling operations within the workplace (pushing, pulling, lifting or setting down of a load).
Course length
1/2 day (4 hours)
Pre-requisites
This is naturally a degree of physical involvement in this training. In situations where an employee attending a manual handling course has a temporary physical impairment, it may be sensible to advise them to defer training until the individual is fit. Certification
All delegates will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance valid for three years. All trainees will receive a HSE produced course manual.
This course can also be counted towards 3.5hrs of periodic Driver CPC training.
